This was a good story, could have been a bit better. I enjoyed the fact that the main villians in the story were not some secret Christian society bent on hiding the truth from the world but actually from a religion much older than Christianity. I will get the next in the series when it comes out.
This book makes you stop and think if what you have been told is true or not. Even though it is fiction what if what it says is true. And now we are not on TV that their has been a message hundreds of years old that Jesus himself stated he had a wife. We were never told that. What else have we not been told. What now! Have we actually been told the truth, is the Bible we know wrong!
Enjoyed the angle and felt it was well researched. Being raised Catholic I have always believed the too much was altered from the original truth. Gnosticism definitely has merit in my opinion.
The book is fairly decent as a fun read for a commute or if you like to just read for fun. The author did do his research, but needs to remember that American's do NOT say MISSES..but MRS, people call each other on CELL phones, not mobiles ( Hell I don't know anyone who would say that----to do so would be akin to wanting to get beaten up) batteries DIE, they don't discharge. We take vacations, not holidays....there were alot of typos and he consistently changed phrases from American to british and back again. Good book, but needs to be properly formatted..
Although it is yet another "secret that will destroy Christianity" novel, Ancient Revenge was a fast paced and did not bore. Perhaps it was because of the inclusion of a misfit Rastafarian or the likeability of the other characters. And the Priestess Warrior Culdee are a new set of villains. Whatever it was, I picked up the book at every opportunity and finished it in a day.
I really mean that! Move over Dan Brown! Mr. Lourens has created a story with thrills and chills and all the historic content anyone would want. I am not smart enough to know if any of the history has any truth to it but the research appears to be impeccable. The author's knowledge of people, places, and things kept me interested and turning the page. Mr. Lourens has created a cast of characters that are diverse and fascinating and he keeps them moving the story along. I don't want to give away any of the plot but if a book contains naked priestesses it usually gets my attention. I cannot wait for J.F. Lourens next book. Mary Firmin, author Deadly Pleasures.
There were primarily two reasons I purchased this as an e-book the first was the price; the second being that I simply have a marked interest in anything that has to do with the Church and ancient organizations or collectivities. Once I started reading this book I simply could not put it down. Unfortunately I did not have the earlier version to serve as a comparison, but the "newer-revised" version was a hit in my eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed the in-depth development of the characters and while the novel itself was long by e-book standards, it was a pleasure to read. I can hardly wait for further works from the pen of J.F. Lourens. I am definitely adding him to my list of authors that simply have to be read!
